A GRAND IN-FRAME KITCHEN
Designed by Steve Smith, this impressive in-frame kitchen and utility room forms the heart of a beautifully transformed Devon home, combining elegant craftsmanship with exceptional storage and functionality for a growing family.
When this growing family embarked on the renovation of their Devon home, they wanted a kitchen that would be every bit as impressive as the architecture surrounding it. With vaulted ceilings, exposed oak beams and an expansive open-plan layout, the space demanded a design that could balance scale, practicality and timeless style.
Working closely with designer Steve Smith, they created a kitchen and utility room that not only complements the character of the home but enhances the way the family live every day. At over 12 metres in length, with a remarkable 5.5-metre island at its centre, the finished design delivers an abundance of storage, dedicated preparation zones and sociable spaces for gathering, entertaining and family life.
The result is a beautifully detailed in-frame kitchen where traditional craftsmanship meets modern functionality.
THE DESIGN
This stunning kitchen features Bampton in-frame cabinetry, with the perimeter cabinetry finished in Light Grey and the statement island painted in Slate Blue. The combination creates a sophisticated contrast while allowing the scale of the room to remain light and inviting.
A suite of integrated NEFF appliances, including twin Slide & Hide ovens, microwave-combi oven, fridge and freezer, have been seamlessly incorporated into the cabinetry. Two Quooker Pro3 Flex taps, positioned at opposite ends of the kitchen, ensure convenience wherever the family are working or entertaining.
Traditional detailing can be seen throughout, from the skirting plinths and pelmets to the decorative island end panels and carefully considered in-frame construction. Quartz worktops run throughout the kitchen, while subtle LED lighting adds warmth and atmosphere to both working and display areas.
The centrepiece of the room is the impressive island. At 5.5 metres long, it was simply too large to manufacture as a single section. The quartz worktop was therefore expertly joined off-site using an invisible seam, creating the appearance of one continuous surface. Positioned within the island is a downdraft hob, allowing whoever is cooking to remain connected to family and guests throughout the space.

The completed kitchen is a masterclass in balancing scale with practicality. Every wall has been carefully considered to provide purposeful storage without compromising the clean, elegant aesthetic.

Finished in Rockbeare Light Grey, it provides extensive storage, dedicated laundry facilities, a practical dog-friendly wash area and a bespoke bench seating arrangement, ensuring every part of the home works as hard as the kitchen itself.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS PROJECT
5.5 METRE STATEMENT ISLAND
Featuring a downdraft hob, integrated oak chopping boards, tray sets and oak crates, it provides generous preparation space while creating a sociable setting for cooking, dining and entertaining. The quartz worktop was expertly joined using an invisible seam to maintain the appearance of a single continuous surface.
DOUBLE POCKET DOOR BAR
The bespoke drinks station is concealed behind elegant pocket doors, allowing the cabinetry to disappear neatly when entertaining. The two central glazed bar units feature oak glass holders, glass shelving and integrated LED sensor lighting, creating a luxurious space for storing glassware, spirits and cocktail essentials.
BESPOKE COFFEE LARDER
The dedicated coffee larder has been designed around the family's daily routine. Featuring bespoke coffee capsule drawers, generous storage and integrated sensor lighting, it provides a dedicated space for hot drinks preparation while keeping worktops clear and organised when closed.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY UTILITY ROOM
Featuring stacked washing machines and tumble dryers, extensive storage, a practical sink area, underlit wall cabinets and a bespoke seating area with integrated drawers, it provides the perfect space for laundry, organisation and muddy paws after countryside walks.
