A DEVON HOME REIMAGINED
This project brought together a full kitchen remodel, a carefully planned utility, and a characterful dog room, all designed by Ben Gilbert for a growing family in Devon.
THE KITCHEN
The brief centred on opening up the main kitchen to create a more sociable, adaptable space, with beautifully crafted cabinetry and thoughtful storage at the heart of the design.
The main kitchen features our in-frame Rougemont door in a bespoke colour match, chosen to bring warmth and individuality to the newly opened layout. Traditional craftsmanship runs throughout the scheme, from Oak dovetail drawer boxes to classic butt hinges, skirting plinths and framed pelmets. These details create a timeless feel that complements the family’s style while ensuring exceptional durability.
A large central island anchors the space, housing an Aga at one end to form a natural gathering point. Imperial White 30mm quartz worktops provide a bright, clean surface that balances the bespoke cabinetry and offers generous preparation space.
Storage and functionality were key priorities. A dedicated pantry cupboard with integrated LED strip lighting makes daily cooking effortless, while a slim bar cabinet brings a touch of refinement, echoing the same LED illumination for atmosphere and practicality.
Finishing touches include Hendel and Hendel knobs and handles which enhance the craftsmanship of the Rougemont cabinetry, and a Fisher and Paykel American fridge freezer that provides ample capacity for busy family life.
THE UTILITY
The utility room continues the in-frame Rougemont style, this time in Antique Red to create a warm, characterful contrast to the main kitchen. As with the kitchen, butt hinges, dovetail drawer boxes, skirting plinths and pelmet frames run through the design, creating a cohesive feel across the home.
Ben maximised the unusual footprint of the space by introducing tall storage at one end, including a larder cupboard and an integrated freezer. This keeps the working area calm and clutter free. Up the steps, the utility opens into a secondary working zone with a sink and practical worktop space which is ideal for muddy boots, pet washing and general household jobs. This thoughtful zoning ensures the room works hard for a busy, outdoor-loving family.

Integrated storage provides dedicated space for jackets, boots, leads and other essentials, keeping the adjoining utility tidy. Beneath the cabinetry, a recessed area creates the perfect spot for the dog bed, giving the family pet its own comfortable corner within the home.

Designed within the Purley cabinetry, this recessed nook provides a dedicated spot for the family dog to rest while keeping the room tidy and organised. Integrated seamlessly beneath the storage, it creates a practical and comfortable area that feels fully connected to the overall design.
BESPOKE UTILITY SPACE
Thoughtfully designed around the unique shape of the room, this utility space maximises every inch with tailored storage, a tall larder and integrated freezer. The stepped layout leads to a dedicated sink and worktop zone, creating a hardworking area ideal for boots, laundry and day to day household tasks.
SPICE RACK
Crafted from solid Oak, this spice rack keeps everyday ingredients neatly arranged and easy to reach. Designed to sit within the cabinetry, it adds warmth, character and practical organisation to the cooking space.
PULL-OUT STORAGE
A space saving feature designed to make the most of narrow gaps, this pull out offers easy access to oils, spices and everyday cooking essentials. Its smooth, full extension movement keeps the workflow efficient while maintaining a clean, uncluttered look within the kitchen.
