Minimalist Painted Kitchen

The Kittows’ jaw-dropping kitchen, utility and wardrobes were designed by Chris Phillips, our Showroom Manager. Full of hidden surprises, the kitchen has a built-in larder and a secret bespoke bar unit, as well as two dishwashers and four ovens for optimal efficiency.

Erika and Simon are previous customers of System Six, having purchased a kitchen and utility units for a previous home. When designing this house and moving forward with the build, it was a no-brainer to come to yourselves” says Erika, “Chris has been involved since the infancy of this project and we knew what we were looking for in terms of the space we were working with, we have a very large space and we worked with Chris very well.”

The Kittow’s chose an open-plan layout as they wanted a big, social space where they could host large dinner parties, Christmas dinner etc, with everyone in the same room. Included in the same space as the kitchen is a large dining table and sofa area with a TV.

Erika says “It’s designed for all ages: kids can be watching TV, adults can be sat having dinner and I can be cooking. It works.”

Erika and Simon decided to incorporate a walk-in corner larder, partly because they saw one on display in the showroom and partly because of just how much it can hold – the key is being able to store so much in one place. “Everyone just knows to go there to get something…there’s always a lot of people here, to the point where my husband’s friends were here at the weekend and went straight to the larder and got snacks out, so everyone just knows that it’s full of food.”

The utility room design was based around storage for Simon’s hobbies, however it also serves as a space for dog paraphanalia and somewhere for the family to take of their wellies and other outside gear: "we live on a horse yard…so we need to have somewhere to come in and decant the wellies and then you can come into the house” says Erika.

So, what part of her kitchen is Erika’s favourite? It would be the island, purely because I’ve always wanted one and to me it is the focal point of the kitchen, but also close in second would be our bar area and drinks cupboard.”

When asked what kind of an impact the new space has had on their home life, Erika says “I think just having much more of a social space within this family home, to have as many guests over as possible and it’s just very relaxed and it’s very chilled…there’s always music playing, and drinks are flowing!” Sounds perfect to us!
